Mayor of Castelldefels Visits ICFO
On October 30th, the Mayor of Castelldefels, Manuel Reyes, visited ICFO to learn firsthand the current status of research and innovation activities and to reinforce the City Council’s commitment to supporting the local photonics incubator.
Welcomed by ICFO Director Oriol Romero-Isart and members of the executive team, the visit began with a meeting focused on the progress of the joint project between ICFO and the Castelldefels City Council: the Incubadora d’Empreses Fotòniques i Xips Fotònics a Castelldefels. ICFO Vice Director Silvia Carrasco presented updates on the incubator’s development, highlighting its role in fostering technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and high-value job creation in the city
The delegation also visited several ICFO-linked spin-offs and start-ups hosted on site, including Shinephi, Vitsolc, Qurv, and Quside, where company representatives showcased how publicly supported research is being transformed into market-ready photonic and quantum technologies
The visit reinforced the strategic collaboration between ICFO and the Castelldefels City Council to position the city as a hub for photonics and deep-tech innovation, combining world-class research with municipal support for entrepreneurship and industrial growth.
