ICFO honors the life and work of a friend and colleague
ICFOnians join the family and friends of Prof. Victor Vysloukh in mourning the passing of a colleague and long-time ICFO visitor, who was a professor in the Department of Actuarial Science, Physics and Mathematics at the School of Sciences of the Universidad de las Américas Puebla.
Prof. Vysloukh’s yearly visits to ICFO date back to the institute’s earliest years and are reflected in numerous joint publications. He joined ICFO as a visiting professor during a sabbatical stay in 2007 and then returned yearly for research visits through 2019, establishing long-standing scientific ties and personal connections with generations of ICFO researchers.
Trained as a physicist at the prestigious M.V. Lomonosov Physics Department of the Moscow State University, where he entered as an undergraduate student in 1966, secured a PhD in 1975 and worked as a researcher until the early 1990s, he built a career devoted to nonlinear optics and soliton theory. He moved to México in 1992, where he is recognized for both his scientific contributions and his dedication to teaching and mentoring. Throughout his career, he maintained an active international research profile and extensive collaborations, particularly across Europe.
ICFO is grateful to have benefited from his scientific insights, gentle personality, and friendship over many years. He will be warmly remembered by our community.
