New ICFOnians
Eleven new researchers joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of March. Welcome on board!
March 31, 2015
Two postdoctoral researchers, Dr. Daniel Wegkamp and Dr. Josselin Pello; one visiting Scientist, Ms. Zahra Raissi; one PhD student, Mr. Aleksandar Nesic; and seven students Ms. Barbara Boccuzzi, Mr. Marc Vidal, Mr. Ismael Benito, Ms. Itzel Canals, Mr. Luca Calderaro, Ms. Clotilde Prophete, and Mr. Carlos Florensa; joined ICFO during the month of March.
Dr. Daniel Wegkamp, who pursued his PhD in Physics in Ultrafast electron dynamics and the role of screening at the Free University Berlin, Germany, joins the Ultrafast Optical Dynamics of Solids group at ICFO led by Prof Simon Wall as a postdoctoral researcher. His work will focus on advanced optical pump-probe spectroscopy characterization of nanomaterials for solar cells and optoelectronics.
Dr. Josselin Pello joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral research in the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Valerio Pruneri. Josslin earned his PhD in the COBRA research Group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (NL) with a thesis on Low-power on-chip networks in Indium phosphide (InP) membranes on silicon. At ICFO he will work on a photonic reader using a new on-chip interferometric technique.
Ms. Zahra Raissi joins ICFO as a visiting scientist in the Quantum Information Theory group led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Antonio Acín. She earned her M.Sc. in High Energy Physics (Cosmology) at the Isfahan University of Technology (Iran) and is currently pursuing his PhD in Quantum Information at the Sharif University of Technology (Iran).
Mr. Aleksandar Nesic earned his Masters in Engineering from the University of Belgrade. He joins the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a PhD student within the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate program. He began his PhD studies in 2012 at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
Ms. Barbara Boccuzzi, a student in the Master of Science in Electronic Engineering program at the Polytechnic of Bari (Italy) joins the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Prof Valerio Pruneri. Her work at ICFO will focus on Graphene modulation and sensing.
Mr. Marc Vidal, a student in the Masters in Photonics program offered by the UPC, UB, UAB and ICFO, joins the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Valerio Pruneri. His work in the Optoelectronics group will focus on transparent electrodes for the IR and mid-IR.
Mr. Ismael Benito, a student in the Electronic Engineering of Telecommunications program at the Universitat de Barcelona joins the Advanced Fluorescence Imaging and Biophysics group led by Prof Melike Lakadamyali to work on Software development for super resolution data analysis.
Ms. Itzel Canas Pérez is a Student at Queens Park Community School (UK) who joins the Single Molecule Biophotonics group led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Maria García-Parajo. She will be trained in cell culturing antibody labeling, cell transfection, cell counting and surface glass functionalization.
Mr. Luca Calderaro, a Master student at the University of Padova (Italy), joins the Quantum Information Theory group led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Antonio Acín. He will work on the application of numerical techniques developed by Peter Wittek to physical systems of relevance.
Ms. Clotilde Prophete is a Master’s student in the Lasers, Optics and Matter program at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (France). He joins the Medical Optics group led by Prof Turgut Durduran to investigate Smart diffuse optical probes.
Mr. Carlos Florensa, a Mathematics and Industrial Engineering student in the CFIS - Interdisciplinary Centre for Higher Education at the UPC, joins the Medial Optics group led by Prof Turgut Durduran to research new methods for optical imaging of tissues. This is Carlos’s second ICFO collaboration, having previously participated in the 2012 Summer Fellows program in the KTT unit, where he made his mark with magical contributions to the Photonics Explorers outreach program.
