Twenty new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during June and July. Welcome aboard!

One visiting Professor, Prof. Leszek Kaczmarek; eight postdoctoral researchers, Dr. Joseph Hollmann, Dr. Andreas Lenhard, Dr. Francesca Cella, Dr. Josep Canet, Dr. Oscar Vazquez, Dr. Shi-Ju Ran, Dr. Andreas Albrecht, and Dr. Martijn Jasperse; one research engineer, Mr. Philipp del Hougne; two PhD students, Ms. Rafaël Sibilo and Mr. Ioannis Kogias; and eight students, Mr. Anil Rizaoglu, Ms. Camille Scotte, Mr. Marc de Cea Falco, Mr. Ziad Moubarak, Ms. Corina Kräuter, Mr. Ferran Altarriba, Ms. Aleksandra Dimic, and Ms. Victoria Lipinska joined ICFO during June and July.

Prof. Leszek Kaczmarek, Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Neurobiology at the Nencki Institute Warsaw (Poland), joins ICFO as a visiting scientist in the SLN Facility headed by Dr. Pablo Loza.

Dr. Joseph Hollmann earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral researcher in the Medical Optics group led by Prof Turgut Durduran where he will study narrowband lasers and spectroscopy for atomic quantum optics experiments.

Dr. Andreas Lenhard earned his PhD at Saarland University (Germany) and now joins the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Hugues de Riedmatten as a Postdoctoral researcher. He will study mass sensing using graphene resonators.

Dr. Francesca Cella received her PhD at the University of Genoa (Italy) and went on to do a postdoc in the Nanophysics Dept (Nanoscopy group) of the Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Italy). She joins the Advanced Fluorescence Imaging and Biophysics group led by Prof Melike Lakadamyali to study strongly interacting spins, phonons, and photons in atom-nanophotonics interfaces.

Dr. Josep Canet joins the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a postdoctoral researcher. He comes to ICFO from the University of Valencia where he earned his PhD and later continued with postdoctoral studies.

Dr. Oscar Vazquez joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral research in the research groups led by ICFO Professors Gerasimos Konstantatos and Frank Koppens. He earned his PhD in Microelectronics and Microsystems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. Since that time, he has been working as a Postdoctoral researcher in solar energy conversion and 2-D atomic layered materials at the University of California, Berkeley (USA).

Dr. Shi-Ju Ran joins the Quantum Optics Theory group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein. He earned his PhD in Physics at the Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing (China). Shi-Ju will work at ICFO as a Postdoctoral researcher studying Quantum Metrology in Applications.

Dr. Andreas Albrecht joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral researcher in the Theoretical Quantum-Nano Photonics group led by Prof Darrick Chang. Andreas received his PhD in Theoretical Physics at the University of Ulm (Germany) on controlled quantum dynamics of nitrogen vacancy centers in diamond.

Dr. Martijn Jasperse holds a PhD from Monash University (Australia) having studied the Faraday Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Bose-Einstein Condensates. He joins the Quantum information with cold atoms and non-classical light group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Morgan Mitchell as a Postdoctoral researcher.

Mr. Philipp del Hougne joins the Plasmon Nano-Optics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Romain Quidant as a Research Engineer. He received his Masters in Physics from Imperial College London.

Ms. Rafaël Sibilo joins the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a new PhD student studying Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics. She earned her Masters in Molecular Nano- and Biophotonics for Telecommunications and Biotechnologies in the Erasmus Mundus program at the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan (France), followed by her Masters of Research degree in Photonics Systems Development at University College London (UK).

Mr. Ioannis Kogias joins ICFO as a visiting scientist in the Quantum Information Theory group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Antonio Acin. Ioannis is a PhD student at the University of Nottingham (UK).

Mr. Anil Rizaoglu Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Valerio Pruner. He is a student in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program at Bilkent University (Turkey). He will work to implement Raman microscopy on the AOSLO system at ICFO.

Ms. Camille Scotte is a Masters student in Physics and Nanotechnology at the Technical University of Denmark and the Ecole Centrale De Lille (France). She joins the Medical Optics group led by Prof Turgut Durduran where she will characterize diffuse correlation spectroscopy based neuroimages and their probes on phantoms.

Mr. Marc de Cea Falco a student in the Double-degree program of the CFIS (Interdisciplinary Center for Higher Education) at UPC studying T Physics Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering. He joins the Molecular Nanophotonics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Niek van Hulst.

Mr. Ziad Moubarak is a student in the IESE MBA program who will collaborate this summer with the Knowledge & Technology Transfer unit led by Dr. Silvia Carrasco on the launchpad project SixSenso.

Ms. Corina Kräuter is a Masters student in Biomedical Engineering at Graz University of Technology (Austria) She joins ICFO as a student in the Optoelectronics group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Valerio Pruneri.

Mr. Ferran Altarriba holds a degree in Interactive Design from the University of Lincoln (UK). He joins the KTT unit led by Dr. Silvia Carrasco to work on an Outreach summer project related to interacitve experiences.

Ms. Aleksandra Dimic is a Masters student at the University of Belgrade, studying Theoretical and Experimental Physics. She joins the Quantum information with cold atoms and non-classical light group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Morgan Mitchell.

Ms. Victoria Lipinska is a Masters student f in Theoretical Physics at Stockholm University (SE). She joins the the Quantum Information Theory group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Antonio Acín.
