Two ICFOnians Selected to Attend the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting
Postdoctoral researcher Marinos Dimitropoulos and PhD student Sandra Rodrigues join 600 early-career scientists from around the world for a week of scientific exchange with 70 Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany.
ICFO researchers Dr. Marinos Dimitropoulos and Sandra Rodrigues were selected to participate in the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, held from 28 June to 3 July 2026 in Lindau, Germany. The anniversary edition of this prestigious gathering, convened under the motto “Science Transcending Borders,” brought together around 70 Nobel Laureates and some 600 highly talented young scientists from over 90 countries for a week of lectures, dialogue, and mentorship across the disciplines of Chemistry, Physics, and Physiology or Medicine.
Since their founding in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have provided a unique forum for intergenerational scientific exchange. Each year, a rigorous international selection process selects outstanding early-career researchers (doctoral students and young postdocs) to meet, engage, and build lasting connections with some of the most distinguished scientists of our time. The selection of two ICFOnians for this year’s meeting reflects the institute’s deep commitment to nurturing exceptional scientific talent and to providing its researchers with an optimal environment, adequate resources, and the international connections they need to grow and succeed without limits.
Dr. Marinos Dimitropoulos
Dr. Marinos Dimitropoulos is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the CO₂ Mitigation Accelerated by Photons group at ICFO, led by Prof. Dr. Pelayo García de Arquer. On his participation in the meeting, Dr. Dimitropoulos said: “The 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting reminded me that science is not only about discovery, but also about responsibility, dialogue, and collaboration across disciplines. The conversations I had with Nobel Laureates and Young Scientists made scientific excellence feel more human and strengthened my motivation to pursue research with more ambition and awareness of its broader impact on society.”
Sandra Rodrigues
Sandra Rodrigues is a PhD student in the Molecular Nanophotonics group at ICFO, led by ICREA Prof. Dr. Niek van Hulst. Reflecting on the experience, Rodrigues highlighted the wide range of perspectives the meeting brought together: “It quickly transpired that this meeting was not just about the science we do in the lab, but also about its social impact and our responsibility as scientists in driving the changes we want to see.”
ICFO congratulates both Dr. Dimitropoulos and Sandra Rodrigues on this well-deserved recognition. Their participation in #LINO75 is a testament to the quality of the science being carried out at ICFO and to the spirit of curiosity that drives our researchers to ask bold questions and push the frontiers of knowledge. We look forward to seeing how the ideas and connections forged in Lindau continue to inspire their work in the years ahead.
