Summer Fellows Welcome
Mr. Miquel Perdiguer, General Director of Caixa Catalunya Obra Social, welcomes 2009 ICFO summer fellows at "La Pedrera de Caixa Catalunya".

ICFO-Caixa Catalunya summer fellows were welcomed in Barcelona with a cocktail party at "La Pedrera de Caixa Catalunya", one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces in Barcelona. The Director of Caixa Catalunya Obra Social, Mr. Miquel Perdiguer, and the director of ICFO, Prof. Lluís Torner, greeted the 14 awardees of the scholarship.
“These fellowships are part of the strategy of the Obra Social of Caixa Catalunya to stimulate research, technological development and innovation, as well as new scientific talents. Our R&D area is structured around three core objectives: detection of talent, relations between universities and companies and the enhancement of excellence in postgraduate studies,” said Mr. Perdiguer.
“The summer fellowships represent a fascinating opportunity for young talents,” said Prof. Lluis Torner. “The program allows them to get in touch with top science investigation at the frontier in our field. Thanks to Caixa Catalunya's visionary support, we receive young physicists, engineers, mathematicians, biologists and chemists interested in knowing where the border of knowledge in the ICFO areas of research is.”
At the end of the ceremony, Marduk Bolaños expressed, on behalf of all summer fellows, their gratitude to Caixa Catalunya and ICFO. After the cocktail, the fellows took part in a guided tour of "La Pedrera de Caixa Catalunya".
